Gert Wilders the controversial Dutch MP is set to face up to five charges of inciting racial hatred against Muslims.
If convicted he could be fined and face imprisonment.
Wilders, who is head of the far-right Dutch Freedom Party, is expected to lead his party in forming a coalition government with the Christian Democrats in order to form a majority government.
It is believed that one of the laws that will be passed by the new government in exchange for the 24 Parliamentary seats that Wilders’ party offers will be to ban Muslims from wearing the veil covering the face and will also seek to introduce a more stringent asylum policy, and has called for a ban on the Koran.
While this looks set to take place it seems that Wilders’ anti-Islamic stance and his long catalogue of racist outpourings have landed him on trial facing charges of inciting racial hatred against Muslims.
In addition to comparing the Koran to Mein Kampf he has also described Muslims as ‘Rag heads’ and has justified his attack on the freedom of the Dutch people by attacking civil liberties by paradoxically claiming that “The freedom of expression of at least 1.5 million people is standing trial together with me.”
He has described Muslims as ‘polluting ‘the Dutch landscape, and has received numerous death threats. Wilders remains on trails the ruling expected on November. He also remains on the cusp of power.
