The power of a community united

Labour: opening selection process

OBV reported just over a week ago the proposed plans by the London Labour Party to exclude a number of BME candidates in the race to become Tower Hamlets Mayor.

We along with a number of individuals and organisations including BAME Labour demanded that the selection process be reopened to ensure that fairness prevails

In politics, as in many areas of social and racial justice, we fight battles that we don’t always win. On this occasion our compelling argument and community unity has ensured that the London Labour Party will re-open the selection process.

This news is a good day for common sense and a great moment for Black unity.

Simon Woolley

Director, OBV

  1. This was a well fought fight. I hope London Labour Party will make this as transparent as possible. I must conclude that I find it rather disappointing that we should still be fighting these sort of battles in the new millenium. It only goes to prove that racism is still very much a part of our society.
