Following on from our report yesterday, Shazia Awan OBV graduate scooped the top prize of Entrepreneur of the Year last night at the annual Asian Woman of Achievement Awards.
After beating four other hopefuls to the top spot, Shazia has proven that with drive and determination an idea fortified with business sense, innovation, and passion can become a reality.
A former OBV shadow on Operation Black Vote’s Welsh Assembly Shadowing Scheme, Awan also stood for a Parliamentary constituency in the 2010 election.
Her Peachy Pink clothes line caught the attention of investors last year, who endorsed Awan’s idea. Peachy Pink proved a success and Shazia has now set a benchmark of achievement for others to follow.
Speaking to OBV following her win Shazia commented:
“I am delighted and honoured to have been given the award for Asian entrepreneur of the year. I hope that by accepting this award I can help and inspire other young women to believe in their dreams.”
Francine Fernandes, Head of Shadowing Schemes/General Manager said:
“Winning this award is a recognition of the tremendous contribution which Asian women make to our society and shatters the stereotypical view held by some, about women and particularly Asian women. Shazia is a woman who leads by example, a trailblazer both in the political world and now too in the business world – she is a tremendous inspiration to all.”
