BME MPs still to declare support for new Labour leader

Sadiq Khan- supporting Ed Miliband

The Labour party’s leadership race heated up today with another two MPs putting their names into the ring. However the bulk of Labour’s BME MPs still seem undecided; only four have so far declared their support.

John McDonnell and Ed Balls today both entered the race for the party leadership.

They join brothers Ed and David Miliband.

At time of writing, Ed Miliband has 15 declared supporters in the Parliamentary Labour Party; David Miliband has 21, and Ed Balls has 13.

However, only one in four of the party’s BME MPs seem to have yet made up their minds.

Ed Miliband has won the support of Sadiq Khan, Ed Balls can count on Khalid Mahmood, while Dave Miliband has declared support from Valerie Vaz and Anas Sarwar.
