Good Luck to All BME MP’s

For the new BME MPs today must feel like the first day at the big school. They along with their re-elected colleagues will be sworn in to represent our
national Parliament.

For many the extraordinary journey from immigrant family, and or impoverished
back-ground to representing Her Majesty’s Government has to be seen to be believed.
But believed and celebrated is the right thing to do.

These new MPs will need to know that our communities are supportive. Not blindly,
but rather in a general sense. They will need our support to find their voices,
in way that allows them to challenge, if necessary, their own colleagues on
issues detrimental to race equality.

The older BME MPs, many of whom have great experience, will also need to play
their role too: Guiding them through the Westminster labyrinth and helping them
avoid the obvious pitfalls..

So as the sun shines on this very special day we hope that Rushanara, Chuka,
Helen, Kwasi, Yasmin, Rehman, Sam, Priti, Alok, Paul, Chinyelu, Sajid , Nadim,
Shabana, Paul and Valerie enjoy the first day of their Parliamentary careers.

Be strong, be resolute, and be proud of who you are.

OBV Director
