Love Music, Hate Racism – Get Out and Vote

Rocking the Vote

A huge anti racist music campaign aimed at motivating people to get out and vote is being organised by the Love Music Hate racism campaign in East Yorkshire is running between now and the 6th May.

Targeted at young people a range of bands such as the Happy Mondays, Crooked Billet and the Sesh plus a plethora of local bands are scheduled to perform right throughout the region.

The ‘Use Your Vote‘ campaign intend to spread the message of the importance of voting in an area that has traditionally seen low voter turnouts.

Stewart Baxter, head of Warren Records who are key partners in promoting the campaign stated:

“We encourage you to speak up and be part of democracy”.  Baxter added that “by getting local acts, promoters and venues together, we can pin prick the conscience of those who wouldn’t usually vote”.

The event will feature musical genres catering for a wide range of music tastes. Soul, Rock, Metal, House and some Acoustic gigs will combine to send a powerful message to young people that using their vote on May 6th is of critical importance.

This effort was backed up today by the publication of an open letter signed by a galaxy of high profile artists. The letter urges young people to get involved and use their vote to ensure that racism is defeated at the ballot box. The letter is reproduced below:

Stop the BNP getting elected

We are deeply concerned about the growth in support for the British National Party. The BNP has Members of the European Parliament, one London Assembly Member and over 50 local councilors.

The BNP is a fascist organisation. Fascism stands for: the murder and annihilation of millions, the destruction of democracy, trade unions and civil society, racism, Islamophobia, anti-Semitism, sexism, homophobia and discrimination towards disabled people.
Albert Einstein, one of Britain’s most famous refugees from the Holocaust in Nazi Germany said: “The world is a dangerous place; not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don’t do any thing about it.”

Your vote can help stop the BNP getting elected.

REGISTER TO VOTE BY TUESDAY 20 APRIL
USE YOUR VOTE BY THURSDAY 6 MAY
