Late Surge in Voter Registrations

Voting begins May 6th

Over 50.000 voter registration forms were downloaded form the Electoral Commission web site on Tuesday 20 the April – the final day for voter registration. That adds up to 460,000 downloaded in total since the 15th March and nearly half of those followed the PM leaders live TV debate.

With all the parties struggling, according to recent polls, to secure the support of voters in sufficient numbers to ensure outright victory our vote is well place to make a critical difference. Never has the Black, Asian and ethnic minority vote assumed so much importance in the context of a British general election. In many inner city areas that vote will have play a key role in determining who wins the keys to number 10.

With huge levels of cynicism abroad in the country generally this is welcome news and could signal that the election has now really caught the nations imagination.

What is beyond doubt is that this election is set to be one of the more closely fought election battles in years and with almost half a million additional voters on the electoral role all parties will be campaigning hard to secure every last possible vote.
