Role Model, Matthew Ryder appointed as Queen’s Council


Leading human rights Barrister and REACH National Role Model, Matthew Ryder (pictured above) has joined the ranks among a small number of other Black and minority ethnic barristers appointed as Queen’s Counsel (QC).

Raza Husain, who was awarded Human Rights and Public Law Junior of the Year, by Chambers Bar Awards 2007, joined Ryder as they celebrated with two other chamber colleagues who were also appointed as QCs recently.

Ryder a highly regarded trial advocate has represented a range of clients in high profile trials, including Doreen Lawrence and US faith leader, Minister Louis Farrakhan.

A comprehensive school pupil Ryder read law at Cambridge University and went on to complete an LLM (Master of Law) at Columbia University and qualified at the New York Bar.

The pair are members of Matrix Law a leading chamber set up by former Prime Minister’s wife, Cherie Booth. The chamber boasts a silk count of 26 (30%) among members and associates.

Fellow Matrix member Rabinder Singh QC lays claim to being the first judge to sit in the high court wearing a turban instead of a wig.
