Change is here to stay, says blogger

Priti Patel was one of the first 'new wave' of BME candidates

David Cameron will turn a “deaf ear” to backwoodsmen in his party and continue on his drive to diversity the Conservatives, the Financial Times report today.

The FT quotes ConservativeHome blog editor Tim Montgomerie as saying:

For the Conservative party to win, it’s vital that it becomes a broad tent. Some people won’t be happy about that but it’s only by pursuing that agenda that the Conservatives have a hope of victory.”

Montgomerie, who notably praised the selection of one of the first ‘new wave’ of BME candidates, Priti Patel for the safe Tory seat of Witham in 2006, is one of many in the party who are convinced that the process of change is for real, and here to stay.

Hopefully after the election, this won’t be an issue at all for any local association members.
