The Year of the Tiger is here

Merlene Emerson, Simon Woolley and Linda Chung see in the Chinese New Year

Over 150 guests saw in the Year of the Tiger last night, as the Chinese Liberal Democrats celebrated the New Year.

The party’s Home Affairs spokesman Chris Huhne and OBV’s Simon Wooley were among the guests at a restaurant in the heart of Chinatown.

The host, Merlene Emerson (pictured above with Councillor Linda Chung), said she wanted to be a bridge between the party and the Chinese community.

She pledged to continue to work closely with the Electoral Commission and BC Project, they have worked on increasing voter registration and turnout from the Chinese community.

Emerson, chair of the Chinese Liberal Democrats and a general candidate in Hammersmith in west London, introduced Huhne, who spoke about how Lib Dems had been gaining power in most major cities outside London. Guest also heard from Philip Ling, who is aiming to become MP for Bromsgrove.

Woolley said afterwards that he saluted the work of Emerson, who tirelessly strived to ‘bring politics closer to the Chinese community as never before.’
