Sharpton to raise Haiti situation with UK ministers

Civil rights icon Rev Al Sharpton is due to meet Britain’s international development secretary Douglas Alexander to raise the plight of Haiti.

One-time US presidential hopeful Rev Sharpton is taking time out of his visit to the UK – as a guest of Operation Black Vote – to give the British government a first-hand account of the devastation he has witnessed on the Caribbean island.

Rev Sharpton flew into Britain earlier this morning after his second mercy mission to Haiti, with his charity Action For Justice delivering aid.

The charismatic leader will meet Alexander and Tottenham MP David Lammy tomorrow before addressing a rally to inspire the Black vote ahead of the British general election.
