Book now to hear Al Sharpton this Thursday

On a day marking the birthday of one of the most celebrated civil rights icons in history – Dr Martin Luther King – OBV anticipates an inspirational evening as we host the Reverend Al Sharpton at our Realising the Dream event.

By Richard Sudan

Rev Sharpton will be flying to London as a guest of Operation Black Vote and will give a speech at Thursday’s event which will be sure to inspire, and outline a progressive plan for the future.

Holding this event on King’s birthday OBV, as the premier organisation for tackling the black democratic deficit in the UK is hoping that ethnic minorities in this country yet to play a part in the democratic process will indeed begin to realise the dream.

He is due to fly in to London tomorrow, having spent time in Haiti to raise the profile of the devastation the people are facing.

Sharpton’s life, and indeed his life’s work in political activism encapsulates this spirit, and in the run up to what looks likely to be a watershed general election the need for black people to play a full and positive role to enhance British democracy has never been greater.

With key seats in the Midlands and in the south up for grabs, potentially the power of the black vote can decide any election. At the moment it is underutilised. Should it become utilised to the fullest extent leaders will be falling over themselves to ‘court’ the black vote.

When this happens minority communities will be able to make the kind of demands, that can only realised when fortified with political power.

No activist understands the intricacies of this more than Sharpton and with a speech which is sure to make the headlines this event to be held at Friends House in Euston is not to be missed. Places are going fast, so to secure yours rsvp to:
