Al Sharpton flies to Haiti

Rev Al Sharpton is on a mercy mission to Haiti ahead of his visit to the UK. The civil rights leader said he was making the trip today to show solidarity with Haitians in their hour of strife.

New York Daily News reports that Rev Sharpton will deliver a sermon at the Ebenezer Baptists Church in Atlanta, where Dr Martin Luther King preached, to mark Dr King’s birthday, before travelling to Haiti.

Rev Sharpton announced his plans at a vigil for Haiti near the Hatian Consulate in New York.

After visiting the stricken Caribbean island, where he will meet Haitian rapper and activist Wyclef Jean, Rev Sharpton will travel to the UK as a guest of Operation Black Vote, to galvanise the Black community ahead of the British general election.

OBV report that they have been inundated with ticket requests, and urged people to register as soon as possible.
