Songs in the Lowkey of life

Anti-war rapper Lowkey’s self-released track dedicated to the victims of the Gaza bombing has beaten Jay-Z and the Black Eyed Peas to top a online music chart.

His track Long Live Palestine was the top download Amazon mp3 chart, thanks in part to a Facebook group which has attracted over 7,000 fans.

The Morning Star quotes Lowkey as saying: “We’ve proved with zero investment, radio plays and media coverage I can sell more than the Jay-Z album on Amazon.

“It’s an example of people power. If this song can draw attention to the siege on Gaza rather than pretend it doesn’t exist, it will be a success.”

Lowkey, real name Kareem Dennis, who is partly of Iraqi descent, has pledged to donate all the money raised to Islamic Relief’s appeal for Gaza and Interpal, a charity helping Palestinians in need.
