Climate change latest: Griffin has Methane discharge

“The BNP is not a scientific body.” These are the opening words – and just about the only accurate sentence – in a new environmental paper released by climate-deniers the British National Party today.

The 40-page document, which can be found here, is jam-packed with fantasy. For example, “global warming on Mars and Jupiter’s moons has been ignored and is clearly not explained by industrialization!”

The melting of the glaciers is caused by “axial wobbling”, the report says. And there is a new reason for opposing immigration: “Governmental encouragement of migration from the third world to the West increases the carbon footprint of each immigrant tenfold.”

Like the issue of race, the BNP’s views on climate are a strange mixture of myth, facts plucked out of context, paranoia and general confusion.

Alarmingly Nick Griffin  is attending the Copenhagen climate summit on behalf of the European Union, after the MEP was appointed to the European Parliament’s environment committee.

Griffin today accused world leaders of “the biggest hoax in history.”

All this underlines the fact that the BNP’s election is not just bad news for multiculturalism and equality, they are bad for the environment as well.

But while Griffin’s views on the environment might be a source of hilarity, there is no disguising the fact that global warming-deniers are a threat to progress, even though the vast majority of scientists agree that the evidence points to extremely serious changes in the world’s temperature and weather.

Just as the Far Right’s Holocaust-denying is a stomach-churning insult to the millions who perished as a result of Adolf Hitler’s Nazism, so too Griffin’s climate denial seeks to put future generations in jeopardy.

We should therefore be thankful that Griffin produces such ludicrous reports which mean that he is not taken seriously.

  1. I’m a climate change cynic myself, but for different reasons.

I’d like to know how, Griffin can believe that climate change is a hoax, yet believe in ‘carbon footprints’?

Further, if “Governmental encouragement of migration from the third world to the West increases the carbon footprint of each immigrant tenfold”, then surely Griffin is against removal and deportation of migrants given his concern over carbon footprints.
