The most successful Asian footballer is currently Michael Chopra, the Cardiff City striker. Arun Kang, chief executive of Sporting Equals, aims to change this and has set up ground-breaking project with Tottenham Hotspur.

  1. The main reason there aren’t Asian players is because there aren’t that many good enough. Because not that many play in clubs and higher level leagues – essential to develop players. Some people I worked with were involved with the tottenham trial and said it wasn’t much to write home about….
    scratching the surface.
    What they need to do is support more club players and clubs in areas with high asian populations…

  2. the racism still exist in this day and age, as a football coach i see this in our league on regular basis, and asian people feel that there is no way for them to break in any acadmies.

  3. i think you are absolutely correct. We all need to work hard to create awareness and engage youngsters from primary and secondary schools into youth clubs – and also importantly parents must encourage their offsprings to participate into footballing activities….take kids to a football match ( i now there are pricing and hurdles) but if parents have commitments i am sure this will pay off…one day!
