Betty Booed – Part Three

We promised to keep you informed about the saga in Lambeth after a councillor, Betty Evans-Jacas, complained about a being “smeared” by the council leader. And we can now reveal that the leader in question has been referred to the national Standards Board.

The row was sparked when Brixton Hill councillor Evans-Jacas defected from Labour to the Conservatives, prompting the Labour leader Steve Reed to mount a series of strong attacks against Evans-Jacas on his blog and on Twitter. You can read the detail of the case here and here.

Last month Evans-Jacas made an official complaint to the council’s standards committee. That committee has now decided to ask the Standards Board for England to investigate. That body has the power to disbar councillors from office, but it would be wrong to pre-judge what they decide in this case.

As ever, when we hear any developments, you’ll know!

  1. When was the last time that you heard of a black boy succeeding in a complaint against the police after he got beat up by the filth in the back of a police van? I wouldn’t bet on a the decision of their Standards board either
