Jamaican community leader praised

Conservative shadow justice secretary Dominic Grieve has lavished praise on OBV alumni Sylbourne Sydial for his work with the Jamaican community in Britain.

By Richard Sudan

Speaking to Big Eye News Grieve commented “I am delighted to learn that Sylbourne is standing as a councillor in Catford South, Lewisham, for the Tories.

“Sydial has a long track record of working within the Jamaican community and in promoting integration and involvement. I know he will make a very good councillor if given the opportunity”

Dominic Grieve

Sydial, who is a founder of Facilitators for a Better Jamaica (FFBJ), and is aiming to become Britain’s first Jamaican-born MP.

An active community leader, Sydial is also an alumni of the Operation Black Vote’s MP Shadowing Scheme. He thanked Grieve for his comments.

Simon Woolley, OBV director, welcomed Grieve’s praise. He said: “At the moment the Conservatives have the knack of finding and promoting very good BME talent.

“We’re particularly pleased about Sylbourne’s latest progress given that he was nurtured through OBV ranks and is an individual committed to social and racial justice.

“He will be a credit to the Conservative Party and I would hope that uin the next few years his talent will be seen on Her Majesty’s green benches in Westminster.”
