Lib Dems make race appointments

RabiMartinsThe Liberal Democrats have made two new appointments in a move to strengthen its’ progress towards race and equality

Lester Holloway has become the “race champion” for London, a new position that was announced at the party’s regional conference on Saturday.

Meanwhile Watford councillor Rabi Martins (pictured above) has become a personal diversity advisor to the party’s chief executive Chris Fox.

Speaking at the London region conference at City University, Holloway said that letting evolution take its’ course on Black representation was no longer an option.

‘Policies appeal to people, but impressions seal the deal. The public wants answers to their needs, but deep down many also want to feel like if they joined us, they would feel at home.

‘I call it the cricket test: would they want us to come into their homes and watch cricket with them?’

Martins, who is a candidate in Luton North, said he was delighted to work with Fox to address the issue of Black representation in the party.

He said: ‘Nick Clegg and the party have taken significant steps towards making the Liberal Democrats the party of equality and fairness, but they recognise that there is much more to be done. I feel honoured to be asked to contribute to this agenda.’
