They’d be quackers not to pick Sam

Sam-GyimahRising Tory star Sam Gyimah could be the beneficiary of the infamous “duck house” scandal, as he competes to replace a Mallard-loving MP who retired following the revelations

The £1,600 floating duck island claimed on taxpayers money by veteran Sir Peter Viggers became the lasting image of the expenses scandal, and forced the retirement of the Gosport MP.

Now there is a vacancy for the south coast constituency, and Oxford-educated entrepreneur Gyimah is hoping he will be a new broom that will help restore public confidence in parliament.

One comment of ConservativeHome from ‘Traveller’, said of the six-person shortlist: “Looks a bit like same-old same old to me, except for Sam Gyimah. He looks interesting…”

Another reader, called Nick, added: “A good array of candidates… but Sam Gyimah does really stand out as exceptional. A man who intellectually understands the essence of being a conservative, a successful entrepreneur, and a fantastic people person/campaigner.”

Two years ago the black newspaper New Nation tipped Gyimah as one of the Tories rising stars.

We’ll keep you posted how this selection pans out.
