Labour’s pledge on Black representation

bame-labourLabour’s Black members have cranked into action following the Prime Minister’s appearance before a committee talking about diversity, issuing a press release which you can read here

It’s worth reproducing in full because it’s jam-packed full of gems that should be preserved for posterity. According to the BAME Labour release:

  • Gordon Brown is pledging to increase the number of BAME peers in the Upper House;
  • Amend the Equalities Bill to ban the British National Party;
  • Harriet Harman’s previously stated wish to see a four-fold increase in the numbers of Black MPs has been upgraded to a firm pledge;
  • And Keith Vaz, who represents BAME Labour on the party’s ruling National Executive Committee, has promised to fight for future vacancies caused by retiring Labour MPs to be filled by Black hopefuls.

An extremely impressive list of commitments that we expect to revisit in the future.

  2. Your link to the pledge doesn’t seem to work.

  3. Yes, the link fails to find the page…is this a sign of the pledge itself?
