In the Trust we trust

Nick-Griffin2The BBC Trust appeared to be rethinking the wisdom of the corporation in inviting Nick Griffin onto Question Time … and not before time

The Trust – who replaced the old Board of Governors – are the ones who will ultimately be accountable to their paymasters, and news today that they were prepared to consider a complaint from Cabinet Minister Peter Hain over the legitimacy of having the far right leader on the programme is a sign that common sense may just be about to prevail.

As we’ve argued on this blog, the BNP have not been subjected to proper scrutiny in the media, and Question Time is the worst place to try and expose the party’s racism, because the format of the show does not lend itself to that.

With the Trust’s chairman Sir Michael Lyons no doubt considering what life might be like under a Conservative government, firm action over the issue of the BNP could go a long way to raising the standing of the Trust in the eyes of the public if Griffin is booted off Question Time.
