Dizzee: tongue-in-cheek or simply offensive?

Dizzee-foolWhat on earth is Dizzee Rascal doing surrounded by blacked-up minstrels?

Dizzee showed up for the video shoot of his new single Dirtee Cash, with a posse white actors, all with their faces blacked up. He was in a top hat and coat tails in a scene reminiscent of the annual Darkie Day parade held in the Cornish town of Padstow.

Given Dizzee’s appearance on BBC’s Newsnight, crossing swords with Jeremy Paxman on political issues (not!), perhaps we should not expect too much from this rapper.

Dizzee’s video shoot comes only days after actor Harry Connick Jr was evidently shocked to witness blacked-up dancers mimicking the Jackson 5 on an Australian TV show.
