Daily Mail has come under attack for likening immigrants to sheep
Pickled Politics have attacked the Daily Mail today over the paper’s atrocious cartoon (see below).
They were reacting to a cartoon by Mac, which features a wedding between a man and a sheep. The groom says: “I’ve voted Labour all my life, vicar, and fully support their quest for a multicultural society.”
Sunny Hundal responded on his blog with the headline Daily Mail cartoon: immigrants are like animals right?
The Mail cartoon often seems to be caught in a time-warp, and today is no exception. Sunny is right to question whether immigrants are being compared to animals.
Such associations recently caused controversy in America, when the New York Post printed a cartoon of a monkey being shot by police.
While Fleet Street has progressed from the days when the image of a European explorer in an African cooking pot was a regular staple of the cartoonist, the Mail reminds us that we haven’t completely won that battle.
