Sam Gyimah was gracious in defeat after losing out in his bid to become a Conservative MP for Gosport, near Portsmouth.
Last week the Ghanaian businessman’s prospects looked good after he was praised for his campaign to be the Tory candidate in the rock-solid seat, where shamed MP Peter Viggers stood down after his duck-house claim was exposed.
Sadly, Gyimah lost out as the results of the open primary contest were announced less than an hour ago. He came third out of the four candidates.
The nomination was won by Caroline Dinenage, whose website seems surprisingly light on policies, compared to Gyimah’s site.
Gyimah immediately praised the winning candidates on Twitter, writing: “Congratulations to Caroline Dinenage on winning the Gosport primary. I hope she is elected in 2010 and I know she will serve Gosport well.”
The full results were: Caroline Dinenage 4892; James Bethell 2965; Sam Gyimah 2867; Julia Manning 1935. There was an 18% turnout.
We certainly hope Gyimah is successful with another seat!
