If we believe in free speech then extremists need to be challenged says Richard Sudan
I am glad that British Muslims for Secular Democracy have announced plans for a counter-demonstration against to counter that of separatist group Al Muhajiroun.
The demonstration is due to take place on 31st October from 1pm at Piccadilly Circus.

Richard Sudan
Al Muhajiroun plan to march calling for an end to democracy, and for Sharia Law replace it. This ideology does not represent the view of the majority of British Muslims, and does not leave room for the views of others.
This can only divide the community. The British Muslims for Secular Democracy is working in coalition with other multi-faith organisations to deal with the problems that these types of groups pose.
They like the English Defence League preach the type of narrow thinking which serves to break down communication between communities.
Dr.Shaaz Mahboob vice-chair of BMSD commented: “Our counter-demonstration is based on our belief in, and commitment to, those liberal values that define the British state, including legal and constitutional equality for all, equal rights for women and minorities, and religious freedom, including the right to be free of faith.”
